Healthy Printing Newsletter: October 2019
We hope that you had an enjoyable summer! It has been a while since the last newsletter, but we have been busy behind the scene and here are the highlights.
We’d like to start and finish this newsletter with a call to action. Due to the availability of a wide range of certified inks, and a growing number of printers who are using it, healthy printing is easier than ever to do. We’d like to ask EVERY member of the Healthy Printing Initiative to print at least one report this year using healthy printing, and to let us know when you do it. See further information throughout this newsletter.
New HPI members!
In the last months we welcomed several new members: Cambridge University Press, Graphy Cems, Lam’On and PrintArena.

Purchasing guidelines for healthy inks now available
If you’re looking for inks that are healthier to use and improve recycling potential, EPEA has developed purchasing guidelines for how to do that - for your use and feedback. The guidelines are the result of many years of development based on EPEA experience with its clients. A main purpose of these guidelines is to scale up the use of healthy inks.
Results of printer’s questionnaire - The need for an industry standard
The results of a questionnaire put to printers reveal what everybody already suspected; there is no widely accepted industry standard for sustainability in printing. How to solve this? The Healthy Printing Charter and EPEA’s comparison of labels used to identify sustainability in printing are a start.

Healthy Printing in Turkey
Healthy Printing recently starred in the latest edition of Turkish EKOIQ magazine on environmental developments. The article takes up the progress of the ‘Healthy Printing Initiative’, launched by EPEA with support of the DOEN Foundation to scale up availability of healthier substances in printed publications and packaging. EPEA Turkey intends to bring together the relevant partners in the next months to set up a Healthy Printing platform in Turkey. Find out more!
Have you started any pilot projects - let us know!
Several pilot projects bringing together brand owners with ink manufacturers and packaging suppliers are underway, and we are reporting about them. Carlsberg, reported on earlier, is broadening its greener green to more suppliers and substrate types. A large retailer has adopted healthy printing for its packaging.
Have you started your own healthy printing pilot project yet? How do you print your publicity and /or packaging materials? Print your 2019 sustainability report, annual report, and brochures using the new generation of Cradle to Cradle Certified™ healthier inks. Using these inks will add a great Corporate Social Responsibility claim to your organisation’s programme. Let’s accelerate the process and benefit from the positive developments this year!
